This is how the tour feels
Why this tour?
Autumn transforms the Lessinia. The beech woods turn copper and gold, the air becomes crisp and the mountains prepare for the silence of winter – it’s the best time of year to feel the park breathe. You’ll walk through forests that change colour with each step, cross the Great War trenches that still hold the memory of another era, and glimpse a realm where alpine wildlife thrives – wolves, elusive capercaillies, marmots and chamois are all present and documented in the park. At the end of the first day, the reward isn’t just the summit: it’s the door of Rifugio Passo Pertica opening to the warmth of the fire, a freshly served mountain‑cuisine dish, and the satisfying fatigue of a true hike. The next morning, with rested legs and the valley still sleeping under mist, you’ll ascend to Cima Tibet and then to Cima Carega 2,259 m, the roof of the Small Dolomites, before descending through marmot and chamois country, with the autumn of Lessinia spreading at your feet. Two days. One summit. Local mountain dinner by the refuge fire and the Lessinia in its most authentic version.
Program
Day 1: San Giorgio → Buso del Balón → Trenches → Cima Trapola → Passo di Malera → Rifugio Passo Pertica We set off from San Giorgio with the autumn forest as the day's first gift. We cross the Buso del Balón, a natural tunnel carved in the rock, and ascend to the World War I trenches, silent witnesses of the front that crossed these mountains. We climb to Cima Trapola and descend towards Passo di Malera, heading to Rifugio Passo Pertica. Arrival at the hut at sunset, with time to rest by the fire before a mountain‑cuisine dinner. Day 2: Rifugio Passo Pertica → Cima Tibet → Cima Carega → Bivacco Malga Campobrunno → Rifugio Passo Pertica After a hearty breakfast, we ascend to Cima Tibet and continue to Cima Carega, the highest peak of the Small Dolomites, with autumn painting the valley in warm colours at our feet. The descent passes the Bivacco Malga Campobrunno, a typical area for marmots and chamois, completing the loop back to Rifugio Passo Pertica, where we follow part of the first day’s trail before taking another path to the car.
